Yeah!!! Today was the last day of New York State ELA and Math testing for grades 3-8. I was so happy to count my last test booklet and pack my last box with pencils, answer sheets, and exams. Granted they still need to be separated, scored, returned, and all that fun stuff, but we’ll save that for next week.
To celebrate, I brought in some goodies for our teachers–cookies, chips and dip and donuts. I thought they needed a little pick-me-up after the last two grueling weeks. I also thought the kids needs something fun to do as well. I put together a bulletin board in the cafeteria to help them with a little stress relief.
Here is a picture of how it started:
When it was time for lunch I brought my pail of markers into the cafeteria and asked if they wanted to write on my board. I was shocked at the response. We actually had a line of kids every lunch period waiting their turn to write on the board. It’s amazing that a little paper on a wall and some markers can really make kids happy. Just so you know, this is a pretty big board, and will just over 350 kids, I thought we’d have enough room for everyone to write, but I was wrong. I had to add paper next to it for our 5th graders to write on.
Here is the finished product:
This one is of some of the 8th graders leaving their messages:
So what do they want to do?
Most common answers include: Eat, not study, party, go to a sleepover, eat, eat, and eat some more (could you tell it’s lunch time?) and play minecraft
The answers I love include:
Go to Disneyland, Travel to Narnia, Fart (yes, this is Middle School!!!), eat Guacamole!
So what are you going to do since testing is over? Leave a comment below and let me know!
